Floor-Standing & Walk-In Fume Hoods
A floor-standing fume hood — floor-mounted fume hood — carries the chemistry that will not fit on a bench: tall condenser trains, pilot reactors, drum-scale additions, electroplating cells. The chamber stands on its own full-height base, the sash rises to give working access at torso height, and the exhaust system scales to the larger volume of air the enclosure sweeps. WSHLAB floor-standing hoods come in the three ducted materials — 1.0mm cold-rolled all-steel, welded 5-8mm polypropylene for acid digestion and perchloric acid service, and brushed stainless steel for clean and food-grade work — each in 1200, 1500 and 1800mm widths, with exhaust volumes up to 1843 m³/h and a vertical tempered glass sash over the full working face. Where the process grows past the sash opening, walk-in fume hood configurations take over: the chamber floor opens to the room and the enclosure walks around the apparatus. Tell us the tallest assembly and the chemistry, and we will specify the form, material and exhaust schedule.

Engineering the floor-standing series
The floor platform welds the full aerodynamic package to a heavy-gauge base: the 1.0-1.2mm steel or 5-8mm PP chamber over a reinforced base cabinet with chemical-resistant worktop, the sash running full-face on the synchronous counterweight, and a plenum sized for the larger exhaust. Adjustable feet level the cabinet on imperfect floors; service chases route gas, water and power without opening the chamber.

What is a floor-mounted fume hood?
A floor-standing fume hood is a ducted chemical hood whose chamber extends to the floor, either with an integral base cabinet (the standard floor model) or as an open walk-in enclosure around floor-scale apparatus. The aerodynamics are the same as any hood — airfoil sill, three-section baffle, uniform face velocity — scaled to a taller chamber and a bigger exhaust volume.
- Chamber extends to the floor on an integral base
- Walk-in configurations for floor-scale apparatus
- Sash at torso height with full working access
- Exhaust volumes up to 1843 m³/h
Materials for heavy-duty service
Heavy-duty does not change the material logic; it raises the stakes. All-steel floor hoods take the general purpose load: solvents, reagents, distillation. PP floor hoods are the acid digestion fume hood of record — perchloric acid work included, with no metal in the airstream. Stainless floor hoods carry industrial QC, food and cleanroom work with a wipe-down 304 chamber. All three share the sash hardware, baffles and service options.
- All-steel: general purpose and solvent chemistry at scale
- PP: acid digestion and perchloric acid fume hood service
- Stainless 304: industrial, food and cleanroom duty
- Worktops: ceramic, epoxy resin, phenolic or stainless

Floor-Standing & Walk-In Fume Hoods: frequently asked questions
The questions buyers ask most often when specifying Floor-Standing & Walk-In Fume Hoods, answered by our technical team.
Walk-in available?
Yes — where apparatus is taller than the sash, walk-in configurations enclose it with the chamber floor as the laboratory floor. Quoted from your apparatus drawings.
What materials?
All-steel for general purpose, welded PP for acid digestion and perchloric acid, brushed stainless 304 for clean, food and industrial service.
What exhaust volume?
1036-1684 m³/h (all-steel, PP) and 1065-1729 m³/h (stainless) by width; walk-in hoods are engineered to the open area. Fan and duct packages quoted with the hood.
Is it suitable for heavy-duty work?
Yes — reinforced base cabinets, chemical-resistant worktops and high exhaust volumes are designed in, not added on.
