Filtered, recirculating fume hoods that need no ductwork at all

Ductless (Filtered) Fume Hoods

A ductless fume hood — filtered fume hood, recirculating fume hood — does outdoors what used to require a rooftop: room air sweeps the chamber, dual activated carbon filters adsorb the chemical load, a HEPA stage polishes particulates, and the purified air returns to the room. No ductwork, no roof penetration, no exhaust fan — a self-contained fume hood that plugs in and runs where the work is. The engineering problem in a ductless hood is knowing when the filter is done. WSHLAB's filtered cabinets solve it with dual VOC probes — one monitoring the chamber exhaust, one monitoring room air — feeding a saturation alarm with user-set thresholds. The 7-inch touchscreen shows temperature, humidity and VOC concentration live; when the carbon's capacity approaches its end, the alarm says so before the chemistry does. Modular filters configure the cabinet for liquids, dusts or mixed loads. Ductless hoods fit the chemistry that is low-volume and well-characterised: weighing, sample prep, light titrations, aliquoting. For high-volume or exotic chemistry, choose ducted. Send us the chemical list and the hourly usage, and we will specify which regime — and which filter set — your application needs.

TECHNICAL DATA

Engineering the filtered cabinet

The cabinet body is ≥1.2mm steel with epoxy powder coating; front and side panels are ≥6mm acrylic for full visibility. A PSC fan runs 24-hour duty at 39-40 dBA — quieter than a conversation. The 7-inch touchscreen shows temperature, humidity, fan state and dual VOC concentrations, with integrated alarm and data logging. Face velocity holds 0.4-0.6 m/s at the working opening, and the whole platform is JG/T 385-2012 compliant.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

What is a ductless fume hood?

A ductless fume hood is a self-contained fume hood: a chamber with the same sash-and-face-velocity discipline as a ducted hood, but with the exhaust passed through activated carbon and HEPA filtration and returned to the room. The air recirculates — hence recirculating fume hood — which removes the entire exhaust infrastructure from the project. Containment discipline stays identical: capture at the face, filter the load, monitor the result.

  • Same capture discipline as a ducted hood
  • Carbon adsorption + HEPA particulate filtration
  • Recirculating: no duct, no fan, no roof penetration
  • Self-contained — 220V socket and it runs

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

Carbon and HEPA filtration

The dual-layer carbon bed does the chemical work: activated carbon and impregnated media adsorb more than 500 common laboratory chemicals — solvents, acids, amines, aldehydes — selected against a published chemical compatibility chart. The HEPA stage handles particulates and powders. Filters are modular: liquid-phase, dust and mixed configurations mount in the same bay, so the cabinet reconfigures with the workflow, not against it.

  • Dual-layer activated carbon adsorbs 500+ chemicals
  • Impregnated media for acid gas, ammonia, formaldehyde classes
  • HEPA stage for powders and particulates
  • Modular filter bays: liquid, dust or mixed loads

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ductless (Filtered) Fume Hoods: frequently asked questions

The questions buyers ask most often when specifying Ductless (Filtered) Fume Hoods, answered by our technical team.

No ductwork needed?

Correct — the hood filters its exhaust through carbon and HEPA media and returns purified air to the room. Installation is placement and a power socket.

What filters does it use?

Dual-layer activated carbon (with impregnated media for acid gas, ammonia and formaldehyde classes) plus a HEPA stage. Modular bays configure for liquids, dusts or mixed loads; replacement is a stocked, dated spare.

What chemicals can it handle?

Low-volume, well-characterised chemistry: the carbon beds adsorb 500+ common chemicals. High-volume, highly toxic or non-adsorbable work should stay ducted — we confirm scope from your chemical list.

How do I know when to replace filters?

Dual VOC probes and the saturation alarm tell you before breakthrough; the pressure gauge and filter life indicator show the bed state at a glance, and the controller logs what the filter has seen.
