Vertical rising tempered glass sashes on an all-steel chemical fume hood

Sliding Sash Fume Hoods

The sliding sash fume hood is the classic form of the chemical fume hood: a vertical sash — a tempered glass panel in a counterweighted frame — rises to open the working face and slides down to close it. Pull it to the working height and the airflow stabilises at the sash edge; drop it and the enclosure seals behind you. WSHLAB's T1 series runs this configuration on a 1.0mm cold-rolled all-steel body with a 5mm anti-bet liner. The sash hardware is where a sliding sash hood lives or dies. Ours runs on a synchronous belt counterweight system: the glass moves smoothly with one hand, stops where you leave it, and locks for the night. A sash stop limits the maximum opening during unattended operation, keeping the face velocity — and the containment — inside the ASHRAE 110 envelope. 5mm tempered glass gives the visibility and the impact resistance a teaching or production hood needs. 1200, 1500 and 1800mm widths cover the standard installations, with LED lighting, an LCD control panel and 10A splash-proof sockets in the chamber. Ask for the sash options list — stops, locks, replacement glass and combination sashes are all available.

TECHNICAL DATA

Engineering the T1 sliding sash series

The T1 body is 1.0mm cold-rolled steel, epoxy powder coated, around a 5mm anti-bet liner and three-section baffle. The sash is 5mm tempered glass in an aluminium frame on a synchronous belt counterweight — tested to thousands of cycles before it ships. LED lighting, an LCD control panel and 10A splash-proof sockets come standard; the duct spigot exits the top plenum at 1036-1684 m³/h by width.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

What is a sliding sash fume hood?

A sliding sash fume hood — the vertical sash fume hood — is a ducted hood whose working face is closed by a vertically sliding tempered glass panel on a counterweight. It is the standard fume hood geometry: open the sash to work, close it to contain. The vertical rising sash keeps the airfoil sill and the baffle geometry constant at every opening height, which is why containment holds through the whole working range.

  • Vertical rising tempered glass sash on counterweight
  • Constant sill and baffle geometry at every sash height
  • Single-hand operation with synchronous belt drive
  • All-steel body, 1200/1500/1800mm

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

Sash types: vertical, horizontal, combination

Vertical sliding sashes dominate because they suit the way chemists work. Horizontal sliding sashes — panels running side-to-side — keep part of the face always closed and suit repetitive, small-scale operations. Combination sashes pair a horizontal inner pane with a vertical outer pane for the best of both. All three types rely on the same rule: the open area must stay inside the face velocity envelope. WSHLAB builds vertical as standard and quotes horizontal and combination configurations to order.

  • Vertical sash: the standard, full working access
  • Horizontal sash: partially closed face, repetitive work
  • Combination sash: both geometries in one frame
  • Every type engineered to the 0.4-0.6 m/s envelope
Sash types: vertical, horizontal, combination
