Benchtop Exhaust Hoods
Not every bench needs a full fume hood. A benchtop exhaust hood — desktop exhaust hood, canopy hood for overhead service — captures the fume at its source with a compact, light chamber that sits on the bench and ducts away what the process makes. For point-source extraction — a hot plate, a small bath, a staining station — it is the economical answer. WSHLAB builds three desktop exhaust materials: 8mm welded PP for light corrosive extraction, 1.0mm cold-rolled all-steel with anti-bet liner for general service, and brushed stainless with a 304 interior for clean and food work. All three run 1200, 1500 and 1800mm widths at a compact 750mm depth and 1500mm height, with tempered glass sashes and exhaust volumes of 1152-1843 m³/h. Use them where the chemistry is local and light; step up to a full ducted fume hood when the work spreads across the bench. Tell us the source and the chemistry and we will specify the capture that fits — without overselling the hood.

Engineering the exhaust hood series
The chamber trades depth for proximity: 750mm deep, 1500mm high, with the tempered glass sash, LCD control panel and LED lighting of the full hood series. Bodies are 8mm welded PP, 1.0mm cold-rolled steel or brushed stainless with 304 liner; the exhaust plenum exits at 1152, 1497 or 1843 m³/h by width, matched to standard duct diameters.

What is a benchtop exhaust hood?
A benchtop exhaust hood is a compact ventilated enclosure for point-source fume extraction: the chamber is shallower and lighter than a fume hood's, the exhaust demand is lower, and the unit sits directly at the source — a hotplate, a small bath, a staining or drying station. Capture still follows the same rule: air moving into the opening fast enough to entrain the contaminant and hold it.
- Compact chamber for point-of-use capture
- 1200/1500/1800mm widths, 750mm depth
- Exhaust volumes 1152-1843 m³/h
- Tempered glass sash, LCD panel, LED lighting
Materials: PP, all-steel, stainless steel
The material follows the fume. Light corrosive extraction runs in welded 8mm PP with a 5mm PP liner — acid vapours from digestion or etching never touch metal. General service runs in 1.0mm cold-rolled steel with anti-bet liner and LED lighting. Clean and food work runs in brushed stainless with a 304 interior that wipes down and stays compliant.
- PP 8mm: light corrosive fume extraction
- All-steel 1.0mm + anti-bet liner: general service
- Stainless brushed + 304 interior: clean and food work
- All three share the tempered glass sash hardware
