PCR Workstation
A PCR workstation (also called a PCR cabinet, PCR hood or PCR enclosure) is a dedicated laminar flow enclosure for setting up polymerase chain reactions. Its purpose is decontamination: a UV-C lamp sterilises the chamber between runs, and HEPA-filtered laminar airflow keeps airborne amplicons out of the working area, preventing false positives. PCR workstations come in benchtop and floor-standing formats from 2ft to 6ft, with ventilated (laminar flow) and non-ventilated (UV-only) options. High-end three-zone models separate reagent preparation, sample handling and amplification into dedicated positive- and negative-pressure zones.
