Size the process correctly
Match chamber or platform capacity to typical and peak batches without unnecessary oversizing.
A laminar flow hood — also called a laminar flow cabinet, laminar air flow hood, clean bench or cleanbench — delivers a unidirectional stream of HEPA or ULPA filtered air across the work surface, creating an ISO Class 5 (Class 100) particle-free zone. Unlike a biosafety cabinet, a laminar flow hood protects the product, not the operator, which makes it the workhorse for non-hazardous sterile work: cell and tissue culture, PCR setup, microbiology plating, electronics assembly and optical inspection. The first decision is airflow direction. A vertical laminar flow hood blows filtered air down from the top over the work surface; a horizontal laminar flow hood blows it forward from the back wall. From there the choice narrows by form factor (benchtop clean bench vs floor-standing cabinet), width (2ft to 6ft), material (powder-coated steel, 304 stainless or PP), filtration grade (HEPA H13/H14 or ULPA U15) and add-ons such as UV-C sterilisation and touchscreen control.
