Constant Climate Chambers

A constant climate chamber is judged on drift, not on reach. The setpoint is unremarkable, usually 25 °C / 60 %RH or 40 °C / 75 %RH; what matters is whether the chamber still holds it in month nine, with a full load, after the door has been opened twice a day. This family covers the compressor and Peltier cabinets that do that work, from 90 to 2,140 litres.

APPLICATIONS

Constant Climate Chambers Applications & Use Cases

Application-led selection for real laboratory workflows.

Sizing against the batch

Volume in litres hides the shelf area, and shelf area is what limits a stability batch.

Documentation for a GMP audit

A chamber without a calibration and mapping package is a cabinet with a display.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

Compressor or Peltier

The two cooling technologies split this category cleanly, and the choice is about duty cycle rather than about price.

  • Compressor chambers reach 0 °C quickly and hold 10 %RH
  • they are the default for 40 °C / 75 %RH accelerated studies.
  • Peltier chambers such as Memmert HPPeco use no refrigerant and run vibration-free, which suits protein crystals and zebrafish.
  • Peltier units use roughly 90 % less energy than compressor units in continuous operation near ambient temperature.
  • Compressor units win when the protocol needs 5 °C or a fast pull-down after loading.

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

Humidity is the hard part

Temperature control is a solved problem at this price point. Humidity control is where chambers differ.

  • Active dehumidification needs either a desiccant path or a cold surface
  • passive humidification alone cannot reach 20 %RH.
  • The humidity sensor drifts faster than the temperature sensor, so a sterilisation-rated capacitive sensor matters.
  • Water quality drives maintenance: demineralised water and a 10–20 L tank avoid scale in the humidifier.
  • Recovery after a 30 s door opening is the honest measure of humidity control
  • BINDER publishes 16–17 min for KBF.
