APPLICATIONS

Constant Temperature & Microbiological Incubators Applications & Use Cases

Application-led selection for real laboratory workflows.

Chamber material and the 100 °C question

Stainless steel chambers are standard; the grade and the finish affect how easily the chamber is cleaned. Several families offer a 100 °C decontamination program that is not a full sterilisation cycle — it reduces vegetative contamination but does not replace autoclaving racks and vessels.

Bench, stacking and power

A benchtop incubator still needs a stable bench, clearance for the door and a circuit that is not shared with a centrifuge. Stacked or dual-chamber configurations double the load on the same footprint and must be planned before delivery.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

Who uses a microbiological incubator

Teaching laboratories, food and water testing benches, clinical microbiology and QC teams run plates, slopes, media and biochemical assays at a fixed temperature. The load is small, repeated and often shared between several people, so access and recovery after door opening matter more than maximum temperature.

  • Routine plate and slope incubation at 30–37 °C
  • Media preparation, sterility checks and biochemical assays
  • Sample conditioning before gravimetric or microbiological work

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

Gravity convection versus forced air

A gravity-convection cabinet keeps air movement low, which suits open plates and loosely capped vessels. A forced-air chamber recovers faster and holds uniformity when the chamber is fully loaded, but it will dry an uncovered plate if the airflow is not considered.

  • Choose gravity convection for open plates and low-evaporation work
  • Choose forced air when the chamber is loaded densely or the door is opened often
  • Verify uniformity with a loaded chamber, not an empty one
