APPLICATIONS

Horizontal Vacuum Drying Ovens Applications & Use Cases

Application-led selection for real laboratory workflows.

Match the pump to the vapour load

The oven is commonly supplied without a vacuum pump. Pump selection depends on chamber volume, required pump-down time, solvent vapour and whether a cold trap or solvent recovery is needed. A pump that is adequate for water vapour may be unsuitable for aggressive solvents.

Load for vacuum, not for air circulation

Stacked trays can trap air and slow evacuation. The shelf layout should leave paths for vapour to reach the port, and the sample should not cover the entire shelf surface.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

Why use vacuum instead of hot air

Reducing pressure lowers the boiling point of water and solvents, which allows faster drying at a lower temperature. The absence of a flowing air stream also prevents light powders from being disturbed and reduces exposure to oxygen.

  • Heat-sensitive powders, pastes and biological materials
  • Samples that oxidize or decompose in hot air
  • Powders and granular materials that must not be blown around

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

The chamber is part of the vacuum system

Door seals, glass, ports, shelves and the chamber weld all affect achievable vacuum and contamination risk. The horizontal format provides a wide working area, but the door seal and chamber edge need protection from sharp trays and spilled powders.

  • Confirm the chamber material and door-seal replacement route
  • Keep shelves and samples clear of the sealing surface
  • Check the vacuum gauge, port size and any inert-gas connection
