APPLICATIONS

Refrigerated, BOD & Mold Incubators Applications & Use Cases

Application-led selection for real laboratory workflows.

Condensate, defrost and door heating

Every cooled chamber produces condensate. Door and frame heating prevents the gasket from freezing shut; an automatic defrost cycle prevents frost build-up during long low-temperature runs. Both affect how often the chamber has to be emptied.

Mould work needs light and sterilisation, not only cooling

Mould incubators add UV sterilisation to a cooled chamber, and some add humidity control. UV treats the air and exposed surfaces while it runs; it does not sterilise shelves or vessels, and it is not a substitute for cleaning between runs.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

Who works below ambient

BOD determination at 20 °C, mould and yeast culture, biochemical oxygen demand, enzyme assays and stability work all sit at or below room temperature. In an uncooled room a heating-only cabinet cannot hold 20 °C, so the cooling principle becomes the first specification.

  • BOD5 at 20 °C per APHA or ISO methods
  • Mould, yeast and environmental isolate culture
  • Biochemical and enzymatic assays at 4–25 °C

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

Compressor versus Peltier

A compressor reaches further below ambient and holds a large cabinet, but it vibrates and needs refrigerant servicing. A Peltier unit has no compressor and no refrigerant, runs quietly and suits small chambers, but its band is limited to about 20 °C below ambient and it is less efficient at large volumes.

  • Choose Peltier for vibration-sensitive work and small chambers
  • Choose a compressor when you need a wide band or a large volume
  • Confirm the achievable band at your actual room temperature
