Temperature & Humidity Test Chambers

A test chamber is defined by its ramp rate. IEC 60068 and the automotive specifications do not only ask for -40 °C and +180 °C, they ask for a defined transition between them, and that transition is what separates a climate cabinet from an environmental test chamber. This family covers the dynamic chambers from -70 to +190 °C, at 3 to 15 K/min.

APPLICATIONS

Temperature & Humidity Test Chambers Applications & Use Cases

Application-led selection for real laboratory workflows.

Low temperature needs a cascade

Reaching -70 °C is a two-stage refrigeration problem, not a bigger single compressor.

What the quotation should pin down

Rate, volume and electrical supply interact, and a quotation that omits one of them is not comparable.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

Rate depends on size

The same chamber family quotes very different ramp rates for different volumes, and the small print matters.

  • ESPEC Platinous cools at 5 °C/min in the 225 L size and 1.4 °C/min in the 900 L size.
  • BINDER MKF 240 holds 5.0 K/min in both directions because the compressor is sized for that volume.
  • A rate quoted per IEC 60068-3-5 is an average between two temperatures, measured empty.
  • Under load the rate falls
  • ask for the rate at the load the protocol specifies.

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

Condensation is the failure mode

Damp heat cycling condenses water on the sample and on the chamber walls, and uncontrolled condensation ruins both.

  • Programmable condensation protection keeps the sample above the dew point during the ramp.
  • Door heating and a heated viewing window stop condensation on the glass at low temperature.
  • The water bath or steam generator position decides how fast humidity recovers after a ramp.
  • A chamber that recovers humidity in two minutes changes the test duration substantially.
