Humidity Chambers

A humidity chamber is specified when the protocol sits above 80 %RH, where condensation, mould growth and sensor drift all appear at once. The cabinets here reach 95 %RH and hold it, with six-sided heating to stop condensation on the walls and a humidity sensor that survives sterilisation. The range runs from 56 to 241 litres, which covers packaging, components and biological samples.

APPLICATIONS

Humidity Chambers Applications & Use Cases

Application-led selection for real laboratory workflows.

Mould, spores and cleanroom practice

A chamber held at 90 %RH for months will grow things unless the design prevents it.

Sizing and water supply

Humidity chambers consume water continuously, and the supply is a site requirement.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

Why high humidity is harder than low humidity

Above 85 %RH the chamber is close to saturation, and small temperature differences become condensation.

  • A 0.5 °C cold spot on a wall at 90 %RH is enough to form droplets, which then drip onto samples.
  • Six-sided heating with a thermal jacket keeps every surface above the dew point.
  • Air exchange has to be smooth
  • a turbulent inlet creates local cold spots and condensation.
  • The drain has to handle continuous condensate, not just an occasional purge.

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

The sensor is the consumable

In a wet chamber the humidity sensor degrades faster than any other component.

  • Capacitive sensors drift in continuous high humidity
  • a sterilisation-rated sensor can be cleaned and dried.
  • A 160 °C sterilisation cycle on the chamber, sensors and air guide resets the biological load without chemicals.
  • That cycle is for the chamber, not for the samples
  • the manual is explicit about it.
  • Calibration at 20 %RH and 90 %RH, in situ, is the routine that keeps the reading honest.
