ICH Stability Chambers

A stability chamber is a climate chamber with a paperwork problem attached. The climate part is solved by any competent 0–60 °C cabinet; the paperwork part is where projects fail, because ICH Q1A does not only ask for 25 °C / 60 %RH, it asks you to prove that you held it for the whole study. This family covers the chambers specified for that job, from 108 to 1,000 litres.

APPLICATIONS

ICH Stability Chambers Applications & Use Cases

Application-led selection for real laboratory workflows.

Data integrity under 21 CFR Part 11

The controller is part of the evidence, and an unaudited CSV export is not evidence.

Sizing a study, not a chamber

The batch is fixed by the protocol, so the chamber is chosen from the sample count and the shelf area.

PERFORMANCE & SELECTION

Which ICH zone you are actually in

The setpoint depends on the climatic zone where the product will be sold, and that decides the humidity floor.

  • Zone I and II long-term: 25 °C ±2 °C / 60 %RH ±5 %RH, the most common requirement.
  • Zone III hot and dry: 30 °C ±2 °C / 35 %RH ±5 %RH, which needs a chamber that can dehumidify actively.
  • Zone IVb hot and humid: 30 °C ±2 °C / 75 %RH ±5 %RH, which is a humidification duty rather than a drying one.
  • Accelerated studies sit at 40 °C ±2 °C / 75 %RH ±5 %RH for six months, and that is the condition that stresses the compressor.

CONFIGURATION & COMPATIBILITY

Redundancy is not a luxury

A stability study runs for 24 or 36 months. A single compressor failure in month fourteen costs the whole study.

  • Chinese LHH chambers run two imported compressors with automatic changeover specifically for this reason.
  • European chambers rely on the compressor duty cycle plus a documented service interval instead.
  • Ask what happens to the setpoint during a defrost cycle
  • continuous operation without defrost is a real differentiator.
  • Ask how long the chamber holds setpoint on power failure, and whether the alarm reaches a phone.
Redundancy is not a luxury
